Global participants named in reports include BlackRock, Capital Group, Fidelity, T. Rowe Price, Schroders, JPMorgan Asset Management, Franklin Templeton and Janus Henderson.[4] Sovereign and public institutions included the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, the Monetary Authority of Singapore, GIC and Norges Bank Investment Management.[4][7] Some large overseas and domestic institutions bid for allocations of 750 million dollars to more than 1 billion dollars each, according to people familiar with the matter.[4] Depth Grid's explainer on sovereign wealth funds in startup investment covers why this class of investor features in large anchor books.

What 30 Times Demand Does and Does Not Show

The anchor portion is capped at 60% of the institutional quota, so demand far above that ceiling is scaled back whatever the number of applicants.[8] On Depth Grid's estimate, the anchor allocation of Rs 8,110 crore is about 60% of the roughly Rs 13,600 crore institutional quota, which is consistent with that ceiling.[5] A 30x multiple therefore measures breadth of institutional interest at the top of the band, not the final subscription figure.

Business Standard noted that strong anchor demand does not guarantee similar enthusiasm from retail investors or ensure gains after listing. Analysts said investors will weigh Jio's subscriber base against competitive pressure, regulatory risks and capital needs.[4] The anchor book also arrived on a day when the Sensex fell as much as 765 points intraday on bank stocks and foreign portfolio selling, according to a Business Standard headline.[10]

At the top of the band, Jio is valued at 34 times FY26 earnings per share against about 39 times for Bharti Airtel, its closest listed rival, according to Business Standard.[5] Depth Grid's own calculation from the Rs 10.3 lakh crore valuation and FY26 profit of Rs 30,049 crore gives the same figure of about 34 times.[5][12]

Reliance Industries will see its stake fall from 66.43% to about 64.5% after the issue, while Meta's affiliate Jaadhu Holdings holds 9.98% and Google holds 7.73%.[5] Akash Ambani, managing director of Jio Platforms, said the full proceeds would make the company net-debt-free.[5] The issue is a fresh issue with no offer for sale, so existing shareholders sell nothing.

What to Watch Next

Retail is the next test. The 35% retail quota is worth about Rs 9,500 crore at the cap, about 19 times the roughly Rs 500 crore retail quota of Zetwerk's IPO, on Depth Grid's calculation.[5][11] Zetwerk's retail portion closed at only about 0.75 times subscribed, which makes Jio's retail response a key data point for the market.[11]

Key dates are October 21 to 23 for bidding, October 26 for allotment and October 28 for listing on the NSE and BSE.[12] For wider context, see Depth Grid's report on Q3 global venture funding, our comparison of startup funding in India, the USA and Europe and our Wall Street weekly wrap.

Common Questions and Direct Answers

How much did Jio Platforms raise from anchor investors?

Jio Platforms raised Rs 8,109.85 crore from 212 anchor investors on October 19, 2026 by allotting 7.24 crore shares at Rs 1,119, the top of its price band. Institutional bids exceeded Rs 2.5 lakh crore, more than 30 times the anchor portion. The anchor book is about 27% of the Rs 30,213 crore issue, on Depth Grid's calculation.

Who were the biggest anchor investors in the Jio IPO?

Life Insurance Corporation of India received the largest allocation at Rs 499.98 crore, equal to 6.17% of the anchor book. New World Fund got Rs 486.27 crore, the Government of Singapore Rs 340.93 crore, SBI Focused Fund Rs 315 crore and BNP Paribas Financial Markets ODI Rs 303.25 crore. Domestic mutual funds took 34.34% and insurers and pension funds 13.44%.

What does the 30x anchor oversubscription mean for the Jio IPO?

It shows strong institutional appetite at the top of the price band, but it is not a forecast for public demand. Anchor allocation is capped at 60% of the institutional quota, so bids far above the cap are scaled back. Analysts quoted by Business Standard said anchor demand does not guarantee retail enthusiasm or listing gains.

How is the Jio Platforms IPO split between investor categories?

Half of the net issue is set aside for qualified institutional buyers, 35% for retail investors and 15% for non-institutional investors. Rs 2,500 crore is reserved for eligible Reliance Industries shareholders and Rs 500 crore for employees, who get a 5% discount. The retail share is much larger than the 10% retail quota in Zetwerk's IPO.

When does the Jio Platforms IPO open and list?

Public bidding opens on Wednesday, October 21 and closes on Friday, October 23, 2026, at Rs 1,065 to Rs 1,119 per share. Allotment is expected on October 26 and listing on the NSE and BSE on October 28. The reported lot size is 12 shares, which means a minimum bid of Rs 13,428 at the upper band.
